School-Based Mental Health Therapist

  • Qualifications:

    Master’s degree or licensed at an independent level. (t-LMHC, LMSW, LISW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent)

    Must pass mandatory reporter training and any additional training required by supervisor.

    Must pass criminal and child abuse background checks

    Job Summary:          

    This position is for a full-time therapists to provide mental health psychotherapy to adolescents, children and families in an outpatient, school-based setting.

    Schools served will be in Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Community School District (20min from Des Moines office) and Ankeny Community School District. Telehealth services also provided. Adel-DeSoto Minburn School-based therapist would be based out of our Des Moines Office, and Ankeny School-based therapist would be based out of our Ankeny Office.

    Responsibilities:

    Evaluate and assess mental health functioning and diagnosis of mental health conditions

    Utilize assessment tools in diagnosing or tracking symptoms

    Provide counseling activities including but not limited to: processing trauma, enhancing coping skills, providing family functioning and relationship enhancement interventions, promoting communication and social interaction, parenting education, mental health or domestic violence counseling and psychoeducation

    Marital dissolution of family unification/reunification services: coordinating communication between parents, addressing step parenting issues, providing counseling and preparation for family transitions

    Collaborate with school personnel and advocate for client’s needs within the school setting

    Provide consultation and education to schools about mental health topics

    Utilize play therapy or play therapy strategies with children and families

    Complete required assessments, treatment plans, progress reports, case notes, and any other required documentation

    Submit billing in a timely manner and maintaining the required number of client contact/billable hours for position

    Maintain all required licenses, certification and continuing education requirements for state licenses and certifications

    Attend client, staff, in-service days, conferences and other meetings as assigned or scheduled

    Two-year commitment to schools if planning to transition to office-based therapy

    Maintain ethical boundaries with clients, families, and others as noted in agency policy handbook and ensure confidentiality of clients
