    • The Serious Stuff...

The majority of my experience is working with adults through feelings of anxiety, grief, anger, and shame. I worked with women affected by domestic violence during my undergraduate internship at the Saint Cloud Intervention Project. I also volunteered at Amanda the Panda as a grief support group facilitator. My most recent experience includes helping adults with legal issues surrounding aggressive behavior and parenting.

I approach counseling with a sense of curiosity and collaboration. Clients and I explore their core values and beliefs, and work to understand how perception influences their relationships, and how their relationships influence beliefs about themselves. We often discuss the importance of communication in relationships and work to dismantle maladaptive patterns.

We also look at resolving difficult emotions by understanding the purpose of those feelings, and where they come from. We look at attachment styles, interpersonal communication, and thought processes, focusing on insight to affect change.

    • The Fun Stuff...

Friends, family, and community are important to me. I enjoy activities that allow me to spend time with people and build connection in fun and inspiring ways. When I moved to Des Moines in 2013, I spent a lot of time volunteering and attending community education classes to feel more connected to my new neighbors. Since then, I have joined volleyball and bowling leagues. I enjoy jogging, biking, skiing, and when I want to relax, I cook dinner with my husband and spend time at home with our dog.
