The Serious Stuff…

Andrew Hopper started my career in education working as a high school social studies teacher for 9 years before making the career transition in the counseling profession. For the last year and a half, he has been working as a substance use disorder counselor while completing his degree from Upper Iowa University. Andrew will work to try and create a warm and inviting atmosphere for his clients using a variety of interventions using a combination from an eclectic approach, all with a person-centered focus. He is very passionate about advocating for our young students and helping them with anything from anxiety and depression to helping them to reach their social and academic goals, while navigating relationships they develop with peers, teachers, and parents. Having taught a variety of classes, He saw the need for many students struggling to cope in an ever-changing world, and he looks forward to being able to help them explore those issues. He also wants to be able to help empower them to be able to take control of their own lives and learn about themselves as they look towards their futures.

Andrew sees clients at Northview Middle School and Prairie Ridge Middle School in Ankeny.

The Fun Stuff…

When Andrew is not working, he loves to spend his free time with his wife and their dog Hero. He and his wife love to take short adventures all around the United States, and they love going on hikes with their dog. They also love playing murder mystery games, and they are a huge puzzle family. Andrew personally loves to spend his free time playing video games and geeking out to the latest tv shows and movies. One day, Andrew thinks it would be fun to be on a reality show competition!
